Xylem Analytics celebrates groundbreaking ceremony at Lerchenberg in Mainz
At the beginning of April 2024, the time had finally come to start the construction phase at the new Xylem Analytics site in Mainz. After an intensive search for a suitable plot of land, the selection of a business partner, the creation of initial drafts, the definition of requirements, the negotiation of rental contracts and the obtaining of planning permission, we are now very pleased to be able to move on to the next phase.
Suitable area and suitable construction partner sought and found
In order to meet the new requirements for modern technologies and working conditions, we were looking for a new location. The Lerchenberg in Mainz offers us ideal conditions: Direct access to the A63, ideal public transport connections and an environment characterized by a spirit of optimism between well-known media companies and other companies in the life sciences sector. User-oriented space for research, development and production for around 150 Xylem employees is now being created on the 9,339 m2 site on Lerchenberg.
We have concluded a 15-year lease agreement for approx. 6,000 m2 of rental space. In order to meet our high standards for the sustainable use of water resources in particular and sustainability in general, it was essential to focus on energy efficiency, especially in a new building. In addition to the installation of a grey water system, a photovoltaic system in combination with green roofs is also planned. Particular attention is also being paid to resource consumption in the development, management and implementation of the construction project. The company entrusted with the construction, Karrié Bau GmbH, is already focusing on lean management in the planning phase and guarantees the implementation of the ESG criteria of the EU taxonomy.
Distinguished visitors on the day of the ground-breaking ceremony
On April 9, the ground-breaking ceremony was held at Lerchenberg. Various representatives from politics and business were present. Nino Haase, Lord Mayor of the state capital Mainz, was also delighted with the choice of location in his speech: "I am delighted that Xylem will remain in the state capital. This is another strong signal that well-known technology companies are investing in our city. This means that highly qualified jobs will be retained and we are one step closer to becoming an attractive research and technology location."
For Sean Donnelly, Vice President Analytics at Xylem, the groundbreaking also marks an important milestone: "I am delighted to be here today to mark the beginning of a new chapter for Xylem in Mainz. A big thank you goes to the City of Mainz for their support in finding this ideal location and to Karrié for their outstanding collaboration in the design and development of this sustainable and state-of-the-art facility for our employees. From these modern and sustainable buildings, our employees will continue to play an important role in solving global water and environmental challenges by providing our customers with precise sensors and measurement systems."
In the following design, we present our new building to scale. The experience we gained during the construction of the Xylem site in Weilheim, Bavaria, which will be completed in 2021, is now being incorporated into this project. The construction site is now set up and the first earthworks will begin shortly.
